Methods

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between nut (peanut and tree nut) consumption and metabolic syndrome in adolescents. Dietary surveys were collected from 2,805 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Individuals were between 12-19 years old.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Adolescents consuming 5g of nuts per day or more had significantly lower odds of metabolic syndrome than those who consumed less than 5g/day. These results persisted even after adjusting for sugar intake and total caloric intake.
