Methods

This study examined 566,398 individuals aged 50–71 at baseline in 1995–1996 to look at the relationship between nut/peanut butter consumption and mortality. Nuts consumed in this study included peanuts and other tree nuts.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Overall nut consumption was significantly associated with 22% lower risk of mortality, as well as lower risk for cancer, CVD, respiratory, infectious, renal, and liver disease mortality. Although peanut butter was not associated with mortality in this particular study, it was associated with reduced mortality risk in an earlier 2015 study.
